a beautiful morning
It is such a relief to have the first concert under our belts! Last week, twenty old and new friends made their way to the barn for ‘Bach & Breakfast’. Steuart and I didn’t know what to expect. Would it feel cramped? Would we have enough food? Would the animals be noisy? Despite some stressful moments that morning (like the oven shorting while the biscuits were baking!), once people starting coming through the doors and filling their cups with coffee, all of those questions felt like unnecessary worries.
Guests helped themselves to muffins, quiche, biscuits and yogurt, all made from scratch and featuring many things we grew right on the farm. We served coffee roasted by a family down the road and fresh mint tea alongside honey from our bees. Steuart played three of the Bach cello suites and after the first and second, we offered browned butter and lavender cookies and fresh pear cider.
People came because they want Farmata to succeed. The optimism - the joy - was palpable. Steuart began with Bach’s first suite. The well-known and loved Prelude felt like the perfect beginning to concerts at Farmata. I loved watching the audience listen to Steuart. I loved watching him play in this room that he labored so long to make beautiful. I loved welcoming people onto our land and sharing some of its fruits. When the concert finished, most of us lingered for a while, feeling that rare unhurried feeling. Our friend Brooks captured some of the moments on his film camera - you can see some of those photos below. If you weren’t able to make it to the first concert, we’re happy to say that there will be more to follow! In the coming weeks we will be adding more concerts to the calendar.
